Subaru BRZ tS – WRX STi RA Details, Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit

Subaru Canada brought us out to the Van Island motorsport circuit to create some images of the new BRZ tS and WRX STi RA. Here are a few teaser images from the days spent there! Beautiful sunsets despite the potential December gloom. Both models come with cosmetic and mechanical upgrades from the previous generations, and taking them for a spin on the track highlighted the benefits of both.

There is something different about the classiccaradventures events. It’s difficult to put into words. One moment from an event five or six years ago has always stuck with me. At the end of a Saturdays leg of the drive a driver with a car worth close to half a million dollars was standing next to a young man with a car potentially worth five thousand. One of the drivers was in his late sixties, with decades of driving pedigree, and dozens of classics. The other standing next to his first classic.

And both of them were smiling, laughing, and talking about the events of the day.They discussed the way their cars handled on the road, asking each other questions and sharing ideas for the next leg of the adventure. They talked about the joys of driving a classic. The shared experience of taking a piece of automotive history across thousands of kilometres of roads in all sorts of weather.

They talked about giving into the urge that all drivers get when they see a road that catches their eye. That urge that pulls them around that next bend, or over the next crest.

“I wonder where that road leads”

It was an incredible moment to witness. And I realized it was just a microcosm of the larger Classic Car Adventures world. With people from all over North America uniting in the passion for great roads, great cars, and spending time with great people.

This years Hagerty Fall Classic took us from mountain side to mountain side , and across the deserts and forests in-between. With drivers from the Canadian events meeting with our new friends from the Colorado Silver Summit it was a weekend of beautiful weather, amazing roads, and endless moments worthy of mention.

Rocky Mountain Rally 2012. – Calgary Alberta.

Every weather condition greeted us at the 2012 Rocky Mountain Rally. It was fantastic to see all the familiar faces. I admit, it felt a bit like coming home. I have traveled all over the world, shooting everything from triathlons to weddings, food, commercial, corporate, and everything in-between. No matter what I shoot, I always feel like Rally is where I belong.

Hagerty Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure 2012 – Day 3

At dawn I found myself idly sipping a coffee and meandering my way down the 5a connector to Princeton. The plan, as today was only a half day of Thaw action, was to shoot the cars a few times on the Old Hedley road leading into Princton, then leapfrog ahead to the finish in Hope and enjoy another tasty coffee from the Blue Moose. I am starting to realize that I may have a coffee problem. Apart from a remarkably close, and surprising encounter with a black bear on one of my photo corners, the day went very smoothly, and I managed to grab a few photos of the participants on their final leg towards Hope. Despite our best efforts. We rose with the sun. Driving for some is a hobby, for others: its a passion. And the thought of another day exploring the backroads of British Columbia’s interior ranch lands was to much to let us rest. From Sunpeaks to Penticton we leap-frogged with the 71 entrants of the Hagerty Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure on some of the most incredible roads in the province. Gorgeous weather, great road conditions, and another batch of photos later, day 2 of the Thaw is complete! Below is a sneak peak of some of the images from todays journey. Hagerty Spring Thaw Classic Car Adventure 2012 – Day 1

We were greeted in Hope – BC by sporadic rain and overcast skies. We knew we were at the right place by the sound of engines and laughter mixing together over a morning coffee. Probably acquired from the famous Blue Moose cafe a few blocks away. This was the fourth year in a row we have shot the Spring Thaw.

Nick Neu and Andrew Snucins of ASPhotography wandered roughly 700km through the interior of British Columbia following these classic automobiles on their annual spring shakedown. Below are a few of the pictures from day 1. Hope -> SunPeaks. Check back tomorrow for more images from the Sunpeaks -> Penticton leg of the journey!

I was called mid-afternoon Friday to shoot a ’58 Pontiac in Oyama, British Columbia for Kellys Kustom Pinstriping. Model Kara Cooper braved the cold to pose with the car / truck hybrid for hours in the -3C weather. And to think, WE were complaining about being cold. Its always fun to shoot something new, and todays hot-rod pin up shoot made for a fantastic Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Kellys Kustom Pinstriping for the great shoot! Mike’s Mustang was unmistakable as it rolled up to our photo locations. The roar of that engine shook your bones. These are sample images from the first half of Mikes car images. We will be taking her out on a drive towards Squamish in a few weeks for some landscape photos.

It has been over a year since I last walked onto a rally stage. And I admit, it felt just like coming home.

Rally is where my photography began, and getting back to my roots, even for a day, was amazing. Despite variable weather conditions from rain to dust clouds in under two hours, it was a fantastic day. Here are a few sneak peak images from the stages I shot. Great to see all the rally folks again!
